Since dating Paul I have probably watched about 75% of the Giants season this year. Compared to my 0% last year! Neither of us have TV, so we watch on his computer, but most of the time we meet at Thieves, a bar that is pretty much RIGHT between where we each live, and we sit with a drink and watch the game. And once we win (always the hope) we play a few rounds of pool and then head out. Thieves has become my home for watching sports, and if there is ever a time that I by chance can't get a hold of Paul (which is rare), if there is a game on, I know where to find him! Thieves was our bar for the World Cup (when we could catch games) and usually for the Giants.
BUT, last friday, the 3oth, Paul and I got to get together to watch one of the hottest games of the season, Giants vs LA Dodgers, LIVE. For his birthday I got him 2nd row bleacher seats. Now 2nd row is awesome, bleacher seats are the cheap seats, but oh so much fun and really so good! This was my first live baseball game in ages and it was so much fun. Because Paul is such a fan, how could it not be good. We were surrounded by pretty drunk, crazy Dodger and Giants fans and the smack talking that occured was hilarious! Giants telling Dodgers to "Go Home," yelling that they "are bums," and encouraging the Giants to "Beat L.A," (a huge slogan for these games, cups, t-shirts, hats, towels, etc. You name it and I am sure they sell it saying Beat L.A on it!)
The Giants played the Dodgers Fri-Sun in SF and we went to the first game of the series, and it was BY FAR the best of all the games. It was a great Friday night that we got to spend cheering on Paul's team and really seeing a close and great game!
Now i still hold a grudge towards sports since they make so much money each year and the arts struggle so much, but I will admit that this game was fun! The stadium was sold out with 46,000 people, can you believe it?!
I had gone back and forth on what to give Paul for his 25th birthday, I wanted it to be memorable, but something that he wanted, and sharing this evening with him made me realize I totally gave him the right gift! I can't wait to go to another game with him (as crazy as that sounds!)
